They’re coming. Apple Watch hasn’t even launched yet, but advertisers are already preparing to launch iBeacon powered ads and content for it. Today, Marsh Supermarkets in the US has revealed that it has installed beacons in all of its 75 stores and will trigger in store smart watch notifications on the Apple Watch when it launches later this year.
Shoppers who use the Marsh mobile app are already likely to get pushed offers or recipe suggestions while in store. But Marsh has already decided that the Apple Watch market is worth pursuing and has built the integration ahead of debut so on day one they can send beacon powered notifications via the new device. Interestingly, Marsh was also the first company to use UPC bar code scanners back in 1974.
